Strong season suggests wrestling program on the rise

The last four months have proved arduous for the Jr. Bills wrestling program. Among this year’s many accomplishments, the team placed second in the MCC, posted an 8-5 dual meet record, and possibly above all other feats, produced four State qualifiers at the district tournament —three of whom will be returning next year. This is a drastic improvement from last year, when the program failed to forward a single wrestler to the State tournament.

JV wrestling overcomes shorthanded squad to find success

The JV wrestling team finished its season last month by taking third place in the MCC Tournament despite having only five wrestlers, nine short of a complete team. Because of this shortage, the team had to forfeit nine matches. The team’s relatively close third place finish, and other top finishes, shows the individual talent of junior wrestlers Reid Gillam, John Putnam, Peter Mungenast, and Patrick Mooney and sophomores Johnathan Sims and Joe Spellmeyer.

State proved to be a struggle for the Jr. Bills’ wrestling squad. The months of preparation prior to the championship were not enough for the Wrastlebills. Heading to Columbia with determination and high goals, the Jr. Bills were thwarted early in the tournament.

Rebuilt wrestling squad sends four to State, one year after sending none

Last weekend’s District tournament proved once again that things are on the up swing for the St. Louis U. High wrestling program. The Jr. Bills advanced four wrestlers to the State tournament this year, following a 2011-2012 season that saw no Jr. Bills make the trip to Columbia, Mo.
